Newborn Lifestyle Photography in Greater London
I love these sessions. Shooting newborn lifestyle photography in and around Essex is one of my favourite parts of the business. Did you know I used to shoot newborns from a studio? Indeed I did and then as the pandemic restrictions lifted there was a time where I was allowed to visit individual home but I couldn’t open the studio and it was so great discover this way of shooting. Coming in to peoples homes allows me to be so much more creative as the family are so much more relaxed and comfortable in their own spaces that the session is such a joy for all involved. So now I only shoot newborn photography in this lifestyle way, lifestyle meaning basically in the home!
Some FAQs for home based lifestyle newborn sessions…
Do you bring everything?
Yep! Everything comes with me in two large bags, including camera and lighting equipment and blankets and lighting equipment for baby.
My house is quite dark and your photos look so light and airy! Will my house be ok?
As long as you have windows I can shoot. I have THE very best photographic equipment that is especially great at handling low light situations, hence why my photos look so bright, light and sharp. Don’t worry, I got you!
What can I do to prepare?
Start feeding baby about 30 minutes before I arrive, we’re going for a full “milk coma” so feed feed feed! Also before you start, strip them down to a nappy and wrap them in a blanket, so I won’t have to disturb their snoozes by wiggling them out of fiddling baby clothes. Finally, and this is important, CRANK up the heating! We want baby to be suuuuper cosy whilst we shoot.
Do I have to be in the photos?
YES. Well no, you don’t HAVE to and I won’t make you. But I will say this, I know you don’t feel your most glamorous right now but one day a grown up version of this baby and an older version of you would be thrilled to look back on you just as you are right now. You matter so much to those people in the future. They both love you and just want you to be in the photo. So give it a go if you can. A nice jumper, spend half an hour on yourself whilst I look after baby and take some photos that no one has to see if you don’t want them to.
When should I have my newborn shoot?
Within the first 3 weeks. Mornings are best for light and sleepy babies. It’ll take 1-2 hours.

Want to find out more about newborn lifestyle photography in Essex by Farlie Photography?
I am a professionally trained and insured Essex based newborn photographer. I have years of experience and three children of my own. So whilst having a brand new baby can be a chaotic time, you can put your trust in me as a professional specialist newborn photographer.
All newborn portrait sessions take place in your own home. I love the authentic backdrop of being in baby’s natural habitat: their own loving home. After years of experience I found I didn’t have to make parents choose “studio or lifestyle?” Because I can create the clean simplistic studio-esc newborn portraits and the authentic lifestyle images in one session, in your home. I’ll bring everything I need, all you need to provide is a cleared bed space and window and we can make magic!
Sessions usually take 1.5-3 hours to allow plenty of time for feeding and settling. It’s important to know that with me there’s no rush I love a birth story and new parents need time to chill and caffeinate. We’ll go at baby’s pace because it’s important you enjoy the experience of the session as well as the final images. These early baby days are precious and a portrait session should only be something that adds to the specialness of this time.
